Hitchin Boys’ School is a part of the North Herts Teaching Schools Alliance in partnership with Hitchin Girls’ School and numerous other schools in North Hertfordshire and Stevenage. We take the lead on the development of Initial Teacher Training across the Alliance.
Hitchin Boys’ School works closely with the Department for Education’s School Direct training programme for graduates, which offers a route to achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). HBS is the lead school for North Herts School Direct, a consortium of six secondary schools covering the areas of Letchworth, Baldock and Hitchin. We work in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire to ensure that students receive a fully-certificated QTS or QTS with PGCE qualification on completion of the course.
Delayed confirmation of Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) funding for this year’s recruitment cycle
The government has made Initial Teacher Education Providers aware that it does not expect to confirm funding arrangements for SKE courses before the end of the 2020 calendar year. Where providers judge SKE to be required as a condition of offer, applicants must note that they would be required to pay for this commercially themselves if the government decides not to provide funded SKE courses. SKE providers will not be able to start any candidates on SKE courses until funding arrangements have been confirmed.
