Academy Trust

Hitchin Boys’ School is a highly successful school. Every year entry to our Year 7 is significantly oversubscribed because families want their students to join us. Our GCSE results are significantly above the national average. Sixth Form students routinely achieve top A & A* grades and progress to high status careers and top universities. Our programmes of sport, music, school trips and other extra-curricular activities are second to none. Our recent Ofsted inspection in January 2016 judged the school to be outstanding. However, the national education landscape is changing and in particular the financial mechanisms by which schools are funded. For this reason the Governors of the school, in consultation with staff, parents and students, took the decision to apply to convert to Academy status.

This was approved by the Secretary of State and as a result Hitchin Boys’ School became an Academy on 1st January 2013. Therefore, Hitchin Boys’ School is now a Trust with charitable status and the Governors are also now Directors/Trustees of that Trust (registered with Companies House as Hitchin Boys’ School – Registered No: 08286295)

Staff, students and parents should experience no significant changes as a result of this new status. We are Hitchin Boys’ School and we remain the same institution that parents chose for their sons with the same ethos and values and the same determination that every student shall achieve his potential.
