Education - Teacher Training

Hitchin Boys’ School is a part of the newly-established North Herts Teaching Schools Alliance in partnership with Hitchin Girls’ School and numerous other schools in North Hertfordshire and Stevenage. We will take the lead on the development of Initial Teacher Training across the Alliance.

Hitchin Boys’ School works closely with the Department for Education’s School Direct training programme for graduates, which offers a route to achieving Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). HBS is the lead school for North Herts School Direct, a consortium of eight secondary schools covering the areas of Letchworth, Baldock, Hitchin and Royston. We also work in partnership with the University of Hertfordshire to ensure that students receive a fully-certificated PGCE qualification on completion of the course. We also work with our local primary colleagues to train primary teachers.

For more information from the Department for Education on the School Direct scheme, click here. For more information on the scheme from the University of Hertfordshire click here. Current vacancies for trainee teaching posts commencing in September 2017 are listed on the UCAS Teacher Training website here.
